Did you know that direct shipping wine to the consumer is a “movement?”
In fact, based on a recent article in Wine Spectator, it’s no just a movement – it’s a big huge growing business opportunity.
According to the article titled “No Slowing the Winery Direct Shipping Movement,” by Robert Taylor, May 2, 2013:
“The numbers are in and, as expected, 2012 was another banner year for winery direct-to-consumer shipping. American wineries shipped nearly 3.2 million cases of wine directly to consumers’ front doors in 2012, at a value of $1.46 billion.”

Per the article, currently there are 39 states where wine can be shipped directly to the consumer.
All of this data points to the fact that these are great reasons to consider a wine home party business.
A few things to keep in mind:
1) Whether you can be in the wine home party business or not will depend on where you live.
The industry is continuing to push to make wine shipping legal across the United States, but even as that battle continues, with 39 states already on board, you can definitely build a great business.
2) Hostesses need to purchase their sampling kit in advance.
Due to regulations, that kit has to be shipped to the hostess; it can’t be delivered by the consultant.
Think about it for a minute.
This increases the hostess’ commitment to hold her date. If she’s invested in the party sampling kit in advance, she is definitely on board.
In the rare event that a hostess postpones, or even cancels – the consultant isn’t out a dime.
3) It’s a consumable product!
Your customers are going to drink it up – and then they’ll want to purchase more…from you! You have the potential for a huge reorder business.
4) Most hostesses already purchase wine or other beverages, and appetizers when they are hosting any type of home party.
The hostess will actually save money because her tasting kit will probably cost much less than what she would spend on a few bottles of wine at the local wine shop.
5) It’s a fun party!
Girlfriends often get together for a night of wine and fun. Why not capitalize on that by selling wine? Plus, you’ll get to have fun with the guests at every party.
So you might be wondering: What wine sells the most?
Per the Wine Spectator article – red outsells white.
In fact, Cabernet Sauvignon was the big winner with 563,594 cases shipped in 2012. Pinot Noir came in second at 443,467 cases shipped.
