Being an entrepreneur, you have decided to start a social selling business. But being a human, you have the normal doubt and fears that your new venture will be a success. While having doubts is normal, one of the best ways to overcome your fears is to have a Personal Success Strategy defined for yourself.
Ceo of Yes To, Inc., Joy Chen, who is also an internationally recognized advocate for women and the former deputy mayor of Los Angeles, told Inc.com that every person should have a personal strategy for success that will guide your business decisions. She talks about how she decided to pursue running a smaller company because it gave her more of an opportunity work on the business, which she loves. To hear everything she has to say, see her whole interview here:
Starting a project with the end in mind is a critical part of being successful in business. This requires some discipline and planning on your part in order to define what it is you are trying to achieve and how you are going to achieve it.
There are some steps you can take to help define your personal success strategy from Strategist and author Rich Horwath’s book, “Strategy for You: Building a Bridge to the Life You Want, says you should use the GOST technique. GOST is an acronym for the following terms: Goals, Objectives, Strategy, and Tactics. Let’s define these components and their role in your personal success strategy:
- Goals: This is what you want to do/have/be/win etc. You have to know where you are going if you are ever going to get there.
- Objective: This is a version of your goal that is more specific. It can include more details like how you will know that you are progressing and how long you are going to give yourself to achieve it.
- Strategy: Your strategy is how you are going to work at making your goal and objectives, but in general terms. This is defining what area you are going to focus on.
- Tactics: Working with your strategy, your tactics help you have a specific action or tool that you will use to attack the area defined in your strategy.
Horwath maintains that once you have taken the time to really think through each of these components you will have a detailed and specific way to get where you want to go. For a more detailed summary of this concept, see the full article by Rick Spence here.
You have shown that you have the courage to start a social selling business and you have a determination for success. The road to successful entrepreneur seldom has shortcuts. But if you use the GOST method by Horwath, your road to success may involve a bridge you built from the life you have now to the life you always saw for yourself.
